Mom Approved Denim Shorts

I’m rounding up the must have denim shorts for this season! I’m a mom of two with a baby on the way, but that doesn’t mean I can’t rock a great pair of shorts, right?!

There’s a range of styles that I’ve added to my “mom approved denim shorts” list, so let’s get into it!

A few places that I love to shop for denim shorts:

Nordstrom

Abercrombie

Old Navy

ASOS

Red Dress Boutique

Levis

Express

Walmart

Shop Denim Shorts I Love

I tried to round up every price point and denim short length! Below are some white and black denim must haves that you must shop. Plus a couple that are a bit longer in length. White denim is such a fun style! I have a hard time not getting them dirty but they always look great at the beginning of the day! I did a try on haul over on Instagram a few weeks ago featuring denim shorts styled 5 ways. You can check it out HERE!

To shop more looks that I love don’t forget to swing by my shop pages!

Shop White/Black Denim Shorts

Shop Long Denim Shorts I Love

Do you have a favorite? I love wearing denim shorts in the summer time. I hope you found a few that you love. I personally can’t get enough of distressed styles! Length is really important for me too, especially when I’m out and about with my kids, so including options that don’t show the booty was important too.

Thanks for reading loves!

Getting Ready for Baby with Ivory Gentle Aloe Scent Detergent

Ivory Gentle Aloe Scent Detergent

We have been getting ready for baby girl! From working in the nursery to buying essentials, we’re busy!

It’s no secret I’ve been shopping up a storm for her in the fashion department as well. There’s something about little baby clothes that I just LOVE! Having her little outfits washed and ready to go helps check items off the very long list we have to prepare for her arrival.

We recently started using Ivory Gentle Aloe Scent laundry detergent as we start to wash all her clothes. I like it because while it’s gentle enough for the baby, it’s also tough on stains for my two older boys.

Great for the whole family

My boys are VERY tough on their clothes, it used to bother me but after 10 years of being a boy mom, I’ve learned to just keep a strong detergent and stain remover on hand. It’ll be nice to have a product that the whole family can use and enjoy. Both my husband and son have sensitive skin so there’s a little something for everyone.

Several detergents that are hypoallergenic, are usually also scent free, but this one has a light scent to it which I really enjoy. The boys and my husband like it too! The Ivory Gentle Aloe Scent laundry detergent is made without dyes, phosphates, brighteners, chlorine or enzymes.

Where to Buy

You can find this detergent at Walmart, I added links throughout this post for easy shopping! Do you know someone with sensitive skin or who recently had a baby? Share this post with them, they should definitely try the Ivory Gentle Aloe Scent laundry detergent.

You can see a little sneak peek at the nursery in these photos. The wallpaper is going up this weekend and the crib should be here soon! Can’t wait to share the full reveal with you guys.

4 Ways To Get “The Shot” Without An Instagram Husband

Confession: My husband HATES taking my pictures and doesn’t particularly like being in front of the camera either.

But I’m a blogger and I document a lot of moments in my life, so how do I do it? I get asked a lot about photography, filters and what type of camera I use. So sharing the honest truth about how I get “the shot” is what I’m going to do today.

I have a lot of friends who have their husbands as photographers, and while I think that’s amazing, I don’t have that luxury! And I know many of you don’t either.  Sidenote: I won’t lie, it took me a while to understand that my husband doesn’t love me any less (I would be so MAD at him … like, why don’t you LOVE me!? just take my picture!) I know some of you can relate! He is fully supportive of the blog in every other way, but if it involves a camera, count him out. Thankfully, I’ve learned to deal with that!

I had to figure out how I was going to be able to capture the images and content that I needed to create on a daily basis without the help of my significant other.

FOUR Ways to get “The Shot” Without An Instagram Husband:

1. Blogger Link Ups

There are SO many Facebook groups for bloggers. Find some in your area, or even just larger groups, there is bound to be someone in the same city as you! Reach out via a post or DM and set up photo sessions with each other!

But I don’t have a good camera, Stephanie!

That’s OK! I took a lot photos on my iPhone when I was just starting out. Use editors like Snapseed, Lightroom or Photoshop to get the look you are wanting. Update June 2020: iPhone cameras have evolved so much over the years. I shoot a lot of content on my phone and rarely use a DSLR. (If I’m shooting on my own, sans photographer)

2. Use a Tri-Pod

I use a tri-pod a lot, mainly when I’m at home trying to shoot beauty content or need to get an additional campaign photo. My goal this year is to get outside more with it and shoot myself with my tri-pod and camera so that I am not always using a photographer.

Update June 2020: This is the tripod I use, it comes with a remote!

3. Hire a professional photographer

This probably seems like a no brainer, BUT it’s important to find a photographer who GETS IT! Professional photography can be expensive, however, you need to find someone who understands that blogger photography is different than your normal family or bridal session. I shoot every week, 3-5 looks each time. A good rate for outfits is $150/hour.

Update June 2020: I have not been shooting with a photographer much this year due to COVID, so my tripod and tip #4 have been crucial to my content creation!

4. Use your friends!

I was on a girls’ trip recently and didn’t have my normal set up so I had one of my girlfriends help me out by taking my photos. This was the best and most convenient way to get what I needed. Plus, you’re comfortable with your friends and you can direct them to get the right shot. I have also used my children, they love to take my photos and will take as many as I need with no complaints or for a low price of cookies and video game time.

Blogger friends! What do you do to get “the shot” outside of what I mentioned?

I hope this helps you! If you’re in the Dallas area, feel free to reach out as I’d love to link up!

Are you bold enough to try orange? This may surprise you, but orange looks amazing on so many different skin tones. It’s bold. It’s fun. And it makes a statement. I first fell in love with wearing this shade when I discovered Bobbi Brown’s Sunset Orange Luxe Lip Color and never looked back!

Bump Style: White Ruffle Dress

White dresses have been all the rage, based on how you all are shopping my feed, so I wanted to share this white ruffle dress plus a few more that you need in your closet ASAP!

I shared a try-on haul with Red Dress Boutique a few weeks ago and this dress was featured. There’s nothing like a bright white in the summertime, right?! It is very bump friendly if you happen to be expecting like me. I am about 23 weeks for reference and still wearing my normal size (medium).

White Dresses You’ll Love
white ruffle dress, red dress boutique

My favorite way to style this white ruffle dress is with a low platform sandal/wedge or sneakers! I linked a few options that you will love. All price ranges and sizes. I’ve been trying to stay pretty close to the ground with my heel height this pregnancy, I was feeling a bit off balance last time I wore heels. Anyone else experience that? I know it’s normal, but I just laugh thinking about me 10 years ago when I was pregnant with my boys … I was un-phased by so many of the things that I’m struggling with this time around. Your girl is getting older! Ha!

I can’t wait to share more bump style with you guys. Be sure to let me know if there is anything specific that you want to see. I know that all of my readers are not in this season with me as well, so most of what I share is non-maternity! That way everyone is covered. I added a tab to my blog to make it easier to navigate. Setting Spray Beauty Hack

Get Ready With Me: Setting Spray Beauty Hack

Use a setting spray? Well today on the blog I’m sharing a beauty hack I recently learned and have adopted into my every day beauty routine. I don’t know about you, but I use concealer under my eyes to hide how tired I am as a mom of two. We also have a baby on the way, so I’ve been doubling up the coverage any way that I can!  So where does setting spray come into play?

Today I’m sharing a setting spray beauty hack that involves three products to achieve a natural glow under your eyes. Let’s get started!

Setting Spray Beauty Hack: Products Used:

After I put on my primer and foundation, it’s time to conceal! I typically use the products shown below for my setting spray beauty hack, however, I’m sure you can try it with what you have at home as well.

First, apply concealer to your t-zone and blend it in. Your t-zone is your nose bridge, under eye and between your eyebrows. Occasionally I apply to my upper lip as well! Especially if I’m overdue for hair removal!

Next, I use setting spray to set the concealer. I spray directly to my face, however, you can also apply to a sponge and dab onto your face. I let the spray set for a minute or so, then I finish with my favorite translucent powder!

I lightly dust the powder over my t-zone and it helps to keep my face set for the full day. I tested this hack for a few days before sharing and really like the way it keeps my face looking fresh throughout the day. I’m adding setting spray beauty hack to my list of “wins” for the month! Haha!

Thank you for watching! You can shop all of the products that I’ve been trying this month within this post. For any Tarte Cosmetics links, be sure to use the code STEPHTAYLOR15 to save 15% off! For more on beauty, head to the beauty page for the latest!

20 Week Bump Update

We are officially 20 weeks pregnant so it’s time for a 20 week bump update! Time really seems to be flying by. I can hardly believe we’re already half way there. We have a sonogram this week, and since we haven’t seen the baby since our first appointment, Jason and I are really excited.

So far this pregnancy has been pretty smooth. I mentioned in my announcement post that in our first sonogram my doctor found a golf ball size fibroid. As a result, one of the things that we will be looking for in our upcoming appointment is ensuring that it’s not affecting her growth. I would appreciate your prayers! However, other than that, we’re doing great!

How Are The Boys Feeling?

The boys are a mixture of excited and annoyed with me since I’m buying so much to prepare for baby sister. It’s no secret that when they were born, we were a lot younger and not as financially stable. My oldest son rolls his eyes every time a package gets delivered because he knows it’s likely not for him! Ha! “You were broke when I was born” … this is a direct quote. These kids, I swear. I have to gently remind him he’s traveled to multiple countries, takes vacations every year and even went to the Bahamas and Disney World pre-COVID. In other words, leave me alone!

Since we are at the halfway mark, here’s a quick recap of what we’ve been up to the past few weeks!

20 Week Bump Update

Cravings/What I’m Loving:
  • Spicy foods
  • Sour gummy candy
  • Cava (Mediterranean Food)
  • Flavored Sparkling Water
What I Miss The Most
  • Margaritas
Biggest Adjustment
  • Sleeping on my side (I’m a back sleeper)
  • Being so out of breath
  • Body changes and clothes not fitting
Baby Must Haves (What’s been recommended so far!)
How I’m Feeling
  • Energized
  • Excited
  • Nervous
  • Unprepared
  • A little lost … haven’t had a baby in a LONG time
  • Happiest when shopping
Nursery Purchases (To Date)

20 weeks down, 20 weeks to go! I can’t wait to meet you baby girl!

Thank you guys for your support. I’m open to any and all suggestions, so please keep sending them my way! Have a great week.

May Affordable Fashion Finds

I am rounding up a few of my favorite affordable fashion finds that are must haves for your closet! As many of you know, I have worked with Walmart for the last couple years, and honestly, each season their fashion keeps getting better and better.

I have found myself looking on Walmart.com more and more for affordable pieces that I can wear to the various events in my life. Whether it’s casual, athleisure, date night or for work, I can always find something here.

affordable fashion finds walmart

Affordable Fashion Finds Under $25

I linked a few of my favorites above for you to shop and check out from Walmart. With my growing belly, I am constantly looking for fashionable pieces that will either grow with me or that I can wear after I have the baby.

Speaking of baby, I am 19 weeks this week and feeling pretty good! I can’t believe I am almost halfway through this pregnancy. I’ll be doing a “bumpdate” next week for the 20 week marker. Things feel like they are moving so fast this time around. It is surreal! We have an ultrasound next week too and I can’t wait to see baby girl! We haven’t had an ultrasound since our first appointment when we could barely see her, so seeing her at 20 weeks is beyond exciting!

Stay tuned for more on what’s happening with the baby! For previous posts about affordable Walmart finds, click HERE or use the search bar on my website.

Thank you so much for reading! I appreciate your support.

3 Ways To Give Yourself More Grace

These are crazy times we are living in. And while at times I’ve felt this immense amount of pressure to be productive, to be doing more or to maximize this time at home … I’ll be honest, I can’t do that consistently. I can’t do it consistently and maintain my mental health. That’s where learning to give myself grace has come in.

It took me a few weeks to come to grips with the fact that everyone is responding to this pandemic differently. Some are being extremely creative, whether it be on social media or in the lesson plans they are creating for their children … you name it, I’ve definitely felt inferior at times because I don’t want to do those things nor do I feel like doing anything extra right now.

I’m here to tell you … IT’S OKAY!

Today we’re chatting through 3 ways to give yourself more GRACE! We all need it. Hell, sometimes I need a triple dose. 😉

3 Ways To Give Yourself More Grace

  1. Acknowledge what you ARE doing vs. what you aren’t.
  2. Celebrate every win, even the ones that feel small.
  3. Remember the internet always puts up it’s best self. Try not to compare yourself to false realities.

It’s easy to get wrapped up in all the things we aren’t doing and forget about all the amazing things we ARE doing! Many of us have never lived through something like this and it is perfectly okay to not be okay.

I’ve never worked full-time, homeschooled 2 children, been a mother and a wife simultaneously before. This is a whole new ball game for me and there are days when I fail miserably. But I go to bed knowing I did the best I could.

It’s never perfect and it certainly isn’t pretty, but grace is celebrating each day in spite of those things.

I hope each of you know that you’re doing a great job and I pray one day when my kids looks back on this time, they’ll remember all the fun they had and the things they got away with because their mom let loose a bit and stopped stressing over what wasn’t “perfect.”

We’re Having A Baby!

Well, if you follow me on Instagram, then by now you know that we are having a baby! Wow! That feels so good to finally be able to shout it from the rooftops. It’s been 2 months of keeping this little secret and trying to figure out the best way to tell all of our friends and family, and then of course you all!

Every week that I disappeared for a bit or didn’t post, can more than likely be attributed to pure exhaustion and all my energy being taken to grow this baby.

I’m going to answer a few questions that have come up so far and share a 1st trimester update in today’s post.

baby, pregnancy announcement

1st Trimester Update

The weeks seem to be going by fast right now, but I know towards the end the waiting game for baby will feel soooo long. I’m just trying to enjoy every day. My first trimester went pretty smoothly. I was about 7 weeks pregnant when I had my first doctor’s appointment. At that point, I was experiencing extreme fatigue, tender breasts and some pretty heavy mood swings. My sweet husband was such a champ during that time, because I know I was driving him crazy.

Discovering I Have a Fibroid

During my first appointment, we discovered that I have a uterine fibroid about the size of a golfball. The doctor actually found the tumor before he found the baby. I won’t lie, in that moment waiting to find the heartbeat for the first time, I was bracing myself for him to say that the fibroid would be a problem or that I wasn’t actually pregnant anymore. After a bit of searching, our doctor found the baby’s heartbeat! It felt like the longest few minutes of my life but hearing a heartbeat for the first time is well worth the wait.

I see the doctor every 4 weeks right now, which is nice. I hate that my husband, Jason, can’t be in the appointments with me, but I’m so glad he was able to at least be there for our first one.

Morning Sickness

Morning sickness is not something I’ve ever really dealt with in any of my pregnancies, but this time around I did have a few bouts of feeling nauseous and desperately needed to lay down. That was one of my first indicators that I might not be carrying a boy this time around. I’m so glad that is behind me now!

Slowing Down

I have to say, even with everything happening with Covid-19, being pregnant right now and being able to slow down significantly has been an amazing blessing. I do miss traveling for work and being on the go, but my body needed this break. I received a few questions on baby related things, so let’s dive into the Q&A next!

Baby Q&A

Were you guys trying? If so, for how long?

We honestly were not seriously trying, it was more of a if we get pregnant cool, if not, that’s great too. I do not say that lightly because I know that getting pregnant does not come easy for all.

I took my IUD out in June 2019 because I was ready to give my body a break from birth control. We were extremely careful and used other contraceptives to prevent pregnancy once my IUD was removed. I think we finally loosened up at the end of the year (December) early January and stopped being so careful (basically we were tired of condoms haha) and I got pregnant pretty quickly after that.

How are you feeling? Any morning sickness?

Thankfully only feelings of nausea a few times, nothing too crazy. I feel really fortunate that morning sickness is not something I suffer from.

Yay! A girl! Were you hoping for a girl?!

My husband and son have always said they wanted a little girl in the house. When I was a lot younger, I used to pray that I’d only have boys! In fact, I wanted 4 boys. But then I had 2 and the idea of little girl didn’t seem so bad after all 😉 I love being a boy mom but I’m also looking forward to switching things up around here.

Do you still have any baby items from when your boys were little?

I got rid of everything. I think I kept some clothes that are sentimental to me, but other than that .. it’s all gone. We will be totally starting over! And I’ll certainly be reading lots of blogs from new moms for help on what to buy.

How did your work respond to you being pregnant?

They were so sweet! My boss is awesome and everyone is super excited!

Will you be creating a baby registry?

Yes! I already have one started at buy buy BABY and Amazon, but it’s more so a visual way for me to make sure I don’t forget anything. I hope we can have a shower if things settle down with the virus, but if not, I’m sure we’ll find other ways to celebrate her!

I bet baby girl will be so stylish!! Where do you plan to shop for her?

I’m still figuring it out! I have a very specific idea of how I want to dress her (outside of your typical onesies and loungewear), so I’ve been researching all the brands and boutiques that I see some blogger friends share. Some I love, some I don’t. I’ll do recap of what I find once I narrow it down a bit more. But I am very excited to be able to dress her up. My boys only like to wear athletic clothes. And if it’s not basketball shorts or sweatpants, they aren’t interested … so you can probably imagine … I’m ready to go crazy with all things girly!!

I’ll do another update after the 2nd trimester! Thank you so much again for all of the well wishes and sweet messages. We are over the moon excited. My boys are definitely “mamas boys,” so my husband is looking forward to having someone on his team! I am almost 17 weeks this week and still feeling good. We have an appointment on Thursday, and I can’t wait to check on baby girl.

Talk soon! Love you guys!

How Do Influencers Make Money?

Is Being An Influencer An Actual Job?

The answer is YES!

Influencers are able to build viable careers and make a sustainable income, by sharing their lives and products they create, on social media. It has been incredible to watch the evolution of the influencer industry and how things have grown and changed over the years. Influencers make money a plethora of different ways, and today we are going to highlight a few for those of you who are just getting started.

How Do Influencers Make Money?

The first thing I want to note here is that almost every successful influencer started their career rooted in passion for what they are sharing. While having an online presence can be very lucrative, chasing the dollar and making money cannot be the only thing that drives you. You’ll lose steam fast and quickly forget why you started. So before we dive in, please know that good things (success, money, partnerships, long term deals, etc.) come to those who hustle, who are consistent and who stay true to who they are.

Now that that is out of the way, let’s chat …

So, how do influencers make money you ask? Well the first thing I tell any blogger/influencer that I connect with is that they have value. Even if your following is less than 10K on Instagram or your engagement has tanked lately (just to name a couple reasons why creators often count themselves out of a check) … you are valuable and deserve to be compensated for your time and efforts. We can dig into how much, how to ask and how to negotiate in a future post.

how do influencers make money
How Do Influencers Make Money: Affiliate Linking

The first source of income we’ll discuss is affiliate linking. Anytime you see an influencer tell you to “swipe up” or check out his/her shop page for outfit details, they are more than likely using an affiliate link. Affiliate links allow bloggers/influencers to make a commission off of the products that their audience purchases using their links.

Some popular affiliate programs for influencers include RewardStyle, ShopStyle and Amazon. There are TONS more, but these are probably the top 3 that most bloggers who focus on fashion/lifestyle work with. I wrote a blog post about how to shop my looks with rewardStyle/LIKETOKNOW.it, you can read it HERE.

To give you an example, let’s say this post is about sharing items from the Sephora sale. I could link the word SEPHORA with an affiliate link, that way anyone who clicks on it and shops would generate a commission for me. Or with RewardStyle and ShopStyle I can also create a “widget” within the post that shares actual pictures of the items, and if a reader clicks on the image and shops, I would make a commission (see below):

While affiliate linking is a very small percentage of my annual income, it can be very lucrative! The important thing is to be consistent and understand your audiences wants, needs and shopping patterns. I love my Friday pay days from RewardStyle! It’s extra money that I’m able to use for my family or for myself!

How Do Influencers Make Money: Sponsored Posts

Another way influencers make money is through sponsored posts. This includes both blog and social media. Sponsored content is the most lucrative form of influencer income for me. As someone who has signed several multi-figure deals and has built long term relationships with brands over the years, here is my best advice:

  1. Brands are always watching. They likely won’t engage, it may take months (or longer) for them to reach out, but they are watching. Tag, mention, feature products organically in your feed when appropriate. You don’t have to be obnoxious, but if you truly use something and love it, why not share it with your audience? It’s all about building organic relationships. On top of that, create beautiful content, consistently.
  2. Understand who represents that brand. Often times when it comes to partnerships and collabs, the brand is working with a PR company. Do a little research and learn more about what PR firms that are out there. Understand who they represent and what initiatives the brand you desire to work with is focused on. You can learn about via social media or the brands website. You can always reach out to the brand directly, however, I’ve found that 90% of my collaborations come from an agency. Get on their list, introduce yourself, send your media kit. That way when they are looking for influencers to fill a certain campaign, you are top of mind.
  3. Sign up for Influencer Platforms like Whaler, #paid, collectively, revfluence, TapFluence, rewardStyle to name a few. These are great ways to sign up for collaborations with brands.
  4. Over deliver. Once you land the deal, always over deliver. Give them more than they asked for. Wow them. Trust me, it’ll keep them coming back for more.
How Do Influencers Make Money: Content Creation

When you create beautiful quality content, brands take notice. And sometimes, they’ll just reach out to you for your images. They may purchase images you’ve already taken or ask you to create content for a specific campaign. Often times in this scenario, you would not be required to share on your social feed or blog.

How Do Influencers Make Money: Public Events/Speaking Engagements

I’ll never forget the first time I was asked to speak on a panel. I was so nervous! But I am so glad I did it. It really pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me to grow both personally and professionally.

I did it once and then before I knew it, I was being asked to do several different kinds of events. I was being contacted for both speaking and/or beauty events. I had to learn quickly what I would charge for something like this! You have to factor in time spent, drive time, any required social media shares, etc. into your rate. I love public speaking, even though I always feel like I’m going to faint beforehand! Haha! I love teaching women how to grow their businesses and how to be successful in this field.

how do influencers make money

Well, I’ve highlighted the top ways that most influencers make money! I hope that you all found this helpful and that you push yourself to try and accomplish some if not all of these this year. Thank you so much for reading, I really enjoyed putting this post together and will work on an upcoming post with more helpful information next week.

Stay safe out there, y’all!
