Styling monochromatic looks has been my obsession lately. It’s so easy to do and often times you’ll already have the pieces in your closet to make it happen. I did an all red look a few weeks ago, and this week I’m having fun with warmer tones.
I found the sweater at HM and started building my look from there. I honestly didn’t buy these pieces with the intent of wearing them together, but it all worked so well when I started styling outfits for the week.
Monochromatic by definition is using only one color. I like to use different shades and tones of the same color to really elevate my look. Would you believe me if I told you I bought my velvet shoes over a year ago and I’m just now wearing them? I had to wait for the perfect style moment. I’m just thrilled they are still in style!
Have you tried the monochromatic look? Here’s a little style challenge for you, go to your closet and see what pieces you have in the same color. Then start building your look, even if it’s a casual one! Give it a try. E-mail me or DM me on Instagram and let me know how you do! I want to see!
Let’s talk casual glam styling! If you know me, you know I love to be glamorous but I also love to be comfortable. As you can see, I had quite the field day on HM.com during their Black Friday sales. Every day new items were posted and I couldn’t help myself! I wanted it all. By far my favorite find that has come in the mail so far is this fabulous sweater with faux fur sleeves. The pictures online just don’t do it justice.
The first thing that rolls through my mind when I get something new is … how am I going to style this? I also ordered velvet joggers during my shopping spree. I went back and forth in my head about whether or not these two pieces would work together or not … boy do they! Add the clean grey and white Nike’s and you have yourself a glam but also extremely comfortable outfit. Casual glam is born!
When styled right, casual glam work great together. What I love about this look are the mixed materials and texture; faux fur, velvet, wool and … plot twist … sneakers.
Have fun with your style! I could have easily dressed this sweater up with faux leather leggings, a skirt or even nice jeans with heels, but that’s so predictable! Switch it up a bit, don’t be afraid to try new things, even if you’re not sure if it will work. The great thing about style is that it’s personal, it doesn’t matter if other people don’t like it! It’s your style!
I’d love to see how you guys rock your casual glam!
I shared over on social earlier today this preppy look and it’s one of two looks that I’ve put together trying out a different style. I’m the first to admit that this is not typically my style. But I am always open to trying new things and showing you guys how to style pieces that you may not normally gravitate towards. I raided the J. Crew near my house in search of the ever so popular vest and chambray top trend. I wanted to give it a spin and show how I would style this look, even if it’s not my normal style.
These vests have been around season after season. I’m sure you all have seen them! I took the typical approach and styled this look with a chambray top and a fun beanie, but of course had to add a little “Stephanie” to it. I did so by wearing pink velvet shoes to really spice things up and add my own take a on this common look.
What do you think? Keep clicking to see how I styled look number two of this preppy chic trend.
I am not a neat freak by any means, but there are a few things in life that I am OCD about and one of them is my closet. We recently moved from our home in Houston and are currently renting an apartment until we figure out where we want to settle down. The hardest thing in this transition has not been the smaller living space, it has honestly been the closet and having to share one with my husband! I had my own closet in our last house, so this new situation has been quite strange and has required some deep breathing and lots of grace.
My hangers must match, handbags are on display, shoes are organized by color and style and clothing is organized the same way. As I’m sure you can imagine, my husband could care less about what color his hangers are! Today I thought I’d share some organization tips and a few things that I have in my closet that help me achieve the perfect space that is always ready for a style session.
1. A great full length mirror
2. Matching hangers
This is a small detail, but I promise you it makes all the difference. I prefer black hangers but I’ve seen some amazing closets with white or other colors as well. The cohesiveness does something for my brain LOL! I walk in my closet to create looks, so everything has to flow and not be a distraction.
3. Organize By Style
I have my tops, bottoms, dresses, heels, boots, sandals, shoulder bags, cross-body bags, etc. all organized by style. It makes getting dressed so much easier when I know exactly where to look to find what I need. It is also visually appealing!
4. Give Everything A Home
Whether it is your jewelry, cold weather accessories or belts – ensure that everything has a home. I can’t function in a cluttered environment. Literally can’t do it! When everything has it’s own space, it makes it easier to not only find things, but you’re less inclined to just throw things anywhere because you know a good, safe place to put it.
5. Tips For Smaller Spaces
I can speak first hand about this because I went from a very large closet that was all my own, to a closet that is smaller that I am currently sharing with my husband. If you’re curious, I’m counting down the days until we are out of here! But until then, what I’ve done to make the space work is make my half of the closet as organized as possible, using my previous practices above. I fold more casual tees and things that I don’t wear as often, instead of having them hanging to save space and I utilize closet organizers and jewelry organizers a lot too.
I do what I want to do. This trait has come back to bite me tenfold with a child who seems to have the same attitude, but I am smart enough to know that while it is absolutely terrible right now, it will take him far in life (at least I hope).
I have always been one to not be able to sleep or think straight until I follow through with a goal I’ve set for myself or accomplished what I’ve set out to accomplish. My husband will be the first to tell you that this hasn’t always worked out in my favor, but I can say without a doubt, I’ve attempted more things on my “dreams” list than I have not. And Lord willing, I still have a lot more time to keep going.
I meet a lot of people who have goals they want to accomplish, or a business they want to start and the most common question I get in my DM or email is “how did you start your blog??” And my answer is always as simple as this – I just started. I didn’t have all the answers, but I had a vision for what I wanted to do and I work hard every day to bring that vision to life. I am SO far from where I want to be, but because I got started, I further than where I was.
Sometimes you have to just jump in the game. Yes there will be bumps and bruises along the way, but that’s to be expected. “I do what I want” got me in a little bit of trouble when I was a teenager, but today it has shaped me to be relentless in pursuing my dreams.
So today on the blog I wanted to share my top 5 reasons why sometimes being relentless and pushing hard towards your goals is a good thing.
1. The only thing stopping me is me.
Steve Harvey said this once in an interview … “be relentless” in the pursuit of your dreams. Relentless. That’s a powerful word. I keep that in the back of my mind when I feel like giving up. Relentless. I think that success is a bit of a mind game really, how far can you push yourself when you know the only thing standing in your way is you?
2. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.
I have to repeat this to myself often. Sometimes I say something silly in a meeting, or do something I regret, but in all honesty, what they think doesn’t matter. Stay focused on your end goal. No one can take anything from you that is truly meant for you.
3. If you want it, go get it.
I tell my kids this all the time. If you want something, roll up your sleeves and make it happen. Don’t cry about not having everything you want when it’s within your control to make it happen.
4. No risk, no reward.
Everyone has heard this before right? You won’t strike gold if you don’t start digging. So what if you fail the first few times, something good is coming. Chin up.
5. Satisfaction.
I find great satisfaction in the fact that this is my blog, and no one can take it away from me. I work for myself (and my beautiful family of course). It’s a great feeling.
So whatever it is that you keep thinking about but you’ve been too afraid to start, just start. You’ll figure it out. And you don’t the first time, it’s okay, I bet the next time you get up and start again, you’ll be stronger and wiser for it.
Be relentless.
