Dress | Boots | Sunnies | Lipstick

How to style OTK Boots, brought to you by the most gorgeous OTK boots I own. I was gifted these Pour La Vitorie boots a few months ago and it took me forever to figure out how I wanted to style them. I’ve seen the over the jeans look, and honestly, that just is NOT for me. I don’t like it. I knew I wanted to wear it with a dress, but it had to be the RIGHT dress. So I waited and waited, and then one day, I was walking through Nordstrom (typical, I know), and saw this dress by Topshop. I picked up, knew instantly that this was THE DRESS for my boots, but saw that it was $80, and put it back down. I already had a handful of clothes in my hand and definitely wasn’t parting with any of those pieces, so I tried to be good and not get it! Something you should know about me is that I like a bargain, a steal, low prices … I get that from my mama! But by this time I had already fallen in love and began to do what all rationale shoppers do … I proceeded to talk myself into the dress. “You deserve this.” “You work hard.” “You are fabulous.” Ha!

So needless to say, I bought the dress because 1. I love it and 2. (to me) THIS is the best way to style an OTK boot.

My boots are a bit on the pricier side, so I wanted to show you a great dupe, just in case you don’t want to spend $400! Something that I look for when shopping for OTK boots are comfort and fit – meaning, will they slide down or become awkward when you start walking. Thankfully, these are so well made! I found a few others that some a my blogger gal pals recommend:

LINKED HERE

To create this look, you’ll want to find a dress that hits just above the knee and is slightly free flowing. I found a few other styles that I think would also look really cute with these boots.

Oh! BTW, the dress I’m wearing also comes in a few other colors (#winning)! You can shop it by clicking the links throughout this post or by shopping my SHOP page.

Thanks for stopping by babes! Love you, byeeeeee!

Embellished Tops + Mini Announcement

Sequins, pearls, lace, ruffles … you name it, I love it. I have quite the collection of embellished tops because they are the perfect subtle addition to any wardrobe. I had this monochrome look envisioned in my mind, and then I remembered I had a sequin cami within the same color scheme and it completed the look.

I’ve been doing a lot of online browsing and reading to review what’s coming for spring in the fashion world, as it’s been a few months since I’ve looked at forecasts, and embellishments are still in and going strong. I rounded up a few favorites and would love to show you some options when adding texture to your winter style.

Here are a few embellished faves:

The super mini announcement I have is that I am in fact going to NYFW! If you follow my stories then you saw me talking briefly about this. I was really undecided, but when I thought about the reasons I wouldn’t go (way too cold for this Texas girl!) … I felt as though that was a silly reason to not go and experience something that I genuinely LOVE! Invites have started rolling in and I even have a really exciting brand collaboration to kick off fashion week. I’ll share more once we get it all ironed out, but I will be in the city (tentatively) from February 7 – February 10 or 11th! These dates are completely different from what I had originally planned but when opportunity knocks, you change your flights around, answer the door and say … Hello!!

If you’ll be in the city, holla at your girl!

I would love to connect, grab coffee, run to shows/fittings together and of course SHOOT! I’m excited to explore the city, snap photos and share all things NYFW related with you guys.

See you soon NYC, you know I love you!

Content Planning 101

Content Planning 101: How do you decide what to write about? I’ve covered this topic very briefly on the blog but wanted to dive in a little deeper for my readers that are fellow content creators or just starting out. Planning out what to write for the month, the year or even next week, can be a daunting task. After all, you want it to be relevant to what is happening in the world today and to what your readers are interested in learning about. I have found that many of you love my fashion looks, but there are also several of you who want tips and tricks about creating content for your own blogs as well.

If you’ve created your own space on the internet, then you’ve probably (hopefully) already identified who you are writing to and what your niche is.

I try to have posts planned up to a month in advance, with some projects being planned a little further out based on contracts I’ve signed and requirements for posting. I am not always this organized, and there are some nights when I’m cranking out a post that’s due within the hour, but life runs much smoother when things are planned in advance.

A few tips on how to plan your content:

1. Determine your posting frequency.

My schedule is Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There are times when I miss a day, but I try to pick back up on the next posting day. I work full-time, I have two children – things happen, so if I miss a day, I try to communicate it and then come back strong the next day it’s time to post.

2. Once you know when you’re going to post, start planning out your post content.

My routine is writing out blog post titles, but I would say having a good idea of what you want to say and what the focus of the post will be is a great place to start. Sometimes I write out blog post titles as a part of the planning process, but after I’ve written the post, the title changes! And that’s totally okay. This is my rough draft, planning phase. If you are posting 3 times a week, you should know what you are going to post before each week arrives.

3. Listen to your audience!

I have a search option on my site and one of the favorite analytics to view is the site search query. This tells me what readers are searching for on my page and if they found what they are looking for. Many of the posts I have created were based on something that one of YOU searched for on my site. I want to make sure that I am providing what you are looking for so this helps me out a ton! If you don’t have this feature, create a call to action on your social media pages or blog posts and ask for feedback!

4. Balance your sponsored content.

If you’re just starting out, do NOT stress about not having paying gigs to post about on your blog. But I do want to say for those that do create sponsored posts: balance your content. You want your page to be genuine, and authentic, not a constant commercial trying to sell your readers flat tummy tea or the latest vitamin. Another note I can add about this is stay true to your content. I don’t post every deal that is proposed to me because I need my page to be a place that you can trust what I’m saying. I’m not here to be a walking advertisement for any and every brand out there. Stay on brand. Stay true. Your audience will appreciate that.

5. Establish a series.

These are a great way to create consistent content that covers a topic that your readers might be interested in reading weekly or monthly. I had an Ask Steph series last year that I enjoyed writing for a little while. I may start another one soon.

6. Think through your seasonal content strategy.

My blog is a fashion and lifestyle blog, so my content will stay within this realm. Holidays are great content boosters because a large portion of your audience will likely be able to relate to what you are writing about. Whether it’s Holiday Outfits or Best Recipes for Hosting Christmas, use seasonal times to their full potential. The key here though is to plan ahead and already have the content ready to go by the time the season rolls around.

7. Do your homework.

As a  fashion blogger, my homework includes reading fashion magazines and staying ahead of trends, but whatever your niche is, read up on it, never stop learning and use what you learn as inspiration for your upcoming posts.

8. Speak from the heart.

Sometimes the most read posts for me are the ones that I just wrote from the heart. They weren’t planned or a part of any strategy, but simply me sharing my heart with the people who make this all possible … my readers.

I hope this helps, as always, email me if you have questions or want to see a topic on the blog! I’m always open to suggestions!

Have an amazing day!

How To Style A Graphic Tee

Graphic tee 101! It seems this trend is here to stay so I’ve so much fun shopping and styling graphic tees this season. I like to let my shirt do the talking when all else fails, so naturally when I saw this top at HM (pre-monkey incident), I instantly scooped it up. I love a good graphic tee, and when I started thinking about how long they have been around, it made me realize, this may be a trend that never goes out of style.

Not that I’m much of a trend follower, I tend to wear what I like, but when I think about how long I’ve been wearing statements on my tops, it spans back to childhood. Even when I style my children, I find myself always picking out at least 1 or 2 graphic tees, because they are so fun!

I rounded up my current favorites from a few of my favorite shops.

I typically style my tees casual, however, I love seeing them styled with a skirt or dressed up in a way that is outside of what most people would be comfortable wearing. I am putting together a look for NYFW that will include a dressed up graphic tee look so you will have to check back to see what I come up with!

Short post today! Do you love this FEMMETASTIC top as much as I do?

This Mad Street Style Trend Has Finally Hit the Fashion Mainstream

There was a time when a love for vinyl was a reference to your sizable record collection, but now this historically risqué fabric has entrenched itself in the mainstream (well, the fashion mainstream anyway). Wipe clean and high impact, every item of clothing you could think of has been given the vinyl treatment—from trousers and coats to skirts and accessories—instantly transforming any run-of-the-mill item into a serious statement piece.

The vinyl-ambivalent can rest assured that there are plenty of ways to work this look without looking like a bin-liner. If the idea of stepping out in a pair of vinyl trousers terrifies you then there are plenty of high-shine accessories around that will allow you to dip your toe in. Take your cues from Harriet Stewart who elevates her denim dungarees with a pair of red patent boots. Or, if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, then the vinyl midi skirt is the thing for you. The secret is to keep the rest of your outfit simple a la Lisa Aiken (think white tee and heeled boots) and prepare to turn heads. Scroll down for our full edit of vinyl outfits.

The Christmas countdown is officially on! And how do we know? Because the Marks & Spencer Christmas advert has just hit screen. And the star is a certain Holly Willoughby – and her enviable wardrobe. We can’t stop thinking about the fabulous purple coat that she wears during the ad – which is FINALLY available to purchase now.

Although it was released in store earlier this month, you can now purchase it online for £89. The single-breasted design has already proved a massive hit on Instagram, due to not only the gorgeous wide lapels, the on-trend, oversize fit and super cosy wool texture – but also the fact that Vogue Williams, Holly and fashion blogger Erica Davies have all rocked it. Now if you don’t know who Erica Davies is – let us enlighten you. Erica is a huge fashion influencer and has always been a big fan of M&S, having single-handedly made THAT starry-print constellation dress a sellout last year.

Speaking about how to style the purple coat of dreams, the chic mother-of-two advised: “Do not fear the purple hue. It works SO WELL with navy blue, bright yellow (yes really), orange or red AND emerald green. It’s a completely useful shade if you want to inject some colour into your life. And who doesn’t want that? We couldn’t agree more, E.

She added: “I used to feel like I could only wear a certain type of clothing and I think sometimes you just get stuck in a bit of a rut and wear the same thing over and over again and you create rules for yourself, you think ‘ooh I can’t wear trousers because I’ve got a big bum’ and you create some sort of rule book of your own and sometimes you’ve just got to go ‘right, I’m going to tear up that rule book and I’m going to experiment or I’m going to find my trouser, or I’m going to find my V-neck top or I’m going to find the place that does the perfect T-shirt’. It’s about finding the right things.”

“Anyone can get dressed up and glamorous, but it is how people dress in their days off that are the most intriguing.”

Ali, who gave birth to the couple’s baby daughter Isla in September, looked gorgeous in a black maxi dress that featured an off-the-shoulder neckline. Holly was also her typically stylish self, wearing a white summer dress, while Scarlett looked lovely in a zebra-print number.

  • Presenters Holly and Dec have also been drumming up excitement over on their social media accounts.
  • The This Morning star shared a photo of the pair on Instagram.
  • Holly and I are looking forward to welcoming you to Australia next Sunday night.

There’s only a week to go before I’m a Celebrity returns to screens, and ahead of the launch, show’s leading ladies have been enjoying some downtime together. Presenter Holly Willoughby, who has stepped in for Ant McPartlin this year, was pictured having a laugh with Scarlett Moffatt, who co-hosts the spin-off show, I’m a Celebrity: Extra Camp. The TV stars were joined by Declan Donnelly’s wife Ali Astall on their day out in New South Wales, Australia. Photographed in a suitably verdant setting alongside her co-presenter, Holly looked ready to take on anything with a retro Cowgirl-esque outfit. Dressed in the supercool Danish brand Ganni, a.k.a the go-to designer for influencers worldwide, Holly wore the ultra cute ‘Salvia’ suede mini skirt in dark camel with frill detailing that buttoned all the way up at the front.

How To Start A Blog 2018

You asked, so I am answering! One of the common technical questions I get is, how do you start a blog? And what kind of camera do you use? So I wanted to share my updated version of this post that I shared in 2016!

I remember searching for this topic years ago when I wanted to start my own blog. It seemed like such an undertaking and an unattainable goal, yet here I am, walking into Year 3 of stephtaylorjackson.com. Anything is possible if you really put your mind to it!

I wrote a fashion blog in college, however a few years ago I got the itch to start back up again. I love to write and create content and I love fashion, so it feels natural to me.

I am going to focus on “how to start a blog” today, I will share about cameras and other things I use in a following post!

Below are my top 8 tips on starting a blog:

1. Define your why

Why do you want to start a blog?  It’s a basic question but knowing why you want to do something and why you started will keep you grounded.

2. Identify your niche

What is it that you want to say? Who is your audience?

I am all about fashion, beauty and some lifestyle, but what about you?

3. Start creating content that is uniquely you

I added the “uniquely you” part because you have to be you. If you create a blog that is mirrored off of someone else, you’ve already lost your voice.

4. Create content in batches

Having content on hand and ready to post at all times is important. Once you establish a schedule, it’ll be easier to get into your groove. My schedule is Monday, Wednesday and Friday with an occasional extra post thrown in here and there.

I rarely post #ootd photos because most of my content is shot ahead of time (confession: and also because I wear leggings 90% of the time when I’m not styling a look). I shoot every week, sometimes more than once, but find a schedule that works for you.

5. Establish a web presence

You will need a website (domain) and I would definitely recommend having a social media presence. I know a lot of bloggers have cute blog names, but I just could not come up with anything I liked, so stephtaylorjackson.com is what I became and I couldn’t be happier with it.

I use Squarespace for my blog, but I know a lot people who are super happy with other platforms. Just find what works for you!

6. Focus on quality and creative content  – the rest will fall into place

Everyone starts somewhere. Don’t get caught up in numbers, yes it’s hard, even for me at times, but create quality content that you’ll be proud of.

Side note: I cannot stress the word quality enough. My iPhone only took me so far, then I had to get serious.

7. Do the legwork, don’t take shortcuts

There will be times when it feels like everyone is winning but you, I’ve been there. But great engagement and high quality content will take your further than a number. Take it from me firsthand, shortcuts only hurt you and take a lot of work to dig yourself out of.

Learn SEO, research trends, be consistent, perfect your craft – that’s how you win.

8.  And lastly, always remember – community over competition

There are so many bloggers in the world, and from the outside looking in it probably seems like an over saturated market, but I promise it’s not. Why? Because if you’re being true to you, then no one can offer what you have to offer. We are all unique and there’s room for us all to shine! I have so many blogger friends and we all bring something completely different to the table. That’s the beauty of it!

I hope you found this post helpful. I am always available for questions if you have them so shoot me a message HERE or via email!

Thanks for reading!

How To Make The Most Of A New Year

Happy New Year! This look was styled with pieces from H&M, which is one of my favorite stores ever! I am always shopping online, looking for new pieces to add to my closet. I am almost embarrassed to say that there are times when I click through nearly every single item on the site. I am obsessed.

This look is perfect for work, especially with the cooler temperatures we’ve been having here in Dallas lately. I am wearing a pinstripe trouser with a glitter sweater. I added the faux fur infinity scarf to complete the look and add a hint of glam, because let’s be honest, I’m always here for a little glam.

My shoes are by Coach. These were a bit of a splurge, but I really needed a basic black pump and they are so comfortable! With the new year here and already in full swing, I wanted to share my first styled look for 2018 and take the opportunity to share with you my take on how to make the most of the new year!

Setting goals and laying out my vision for the new year is something that I find absolutely necessary! I won’t lie, I’m not big on resolutions, so this is my way of setting myself up for success at the beginning of a new season.

2018 is here and I want to make the most of it! Here’s 5 ways I plan to do just that:

1. Try new things. Take risks.

2. Live in the moment.

3. Live out my vision board.

4. Be consistent. Go hard. The hustle never sleeps.

5. Breathe life into my dreams. Speak what you want into existence.

How do you plan to make the most of your new year? For me, the short list above is a great start to the year, and as the time passes, I will reevaluate and add more to it if needed. Keeping goals simple and attainable is probably the best advice I can give anyone who is feeling lost when it comes to creating a road map for a new year, or any new beginning really.

I am so excited for what is to come this year, I’m believing 2018 is going to be our best year yet here at STJ.

That’s my prayer for each of you too. Thank you for reading!

And while I did all of those things, I struggled with grief and sadness for much of the latter half of the year and had a hard time pulling myself out of it to really revel in all that we had accomplished. My paternal grandfather, who I adored, passed away in August and a month later, my maternal grandmother, who I also loved dearly, passed away. My world was changing and the things I found comfort and peace in were not on this Earth anymore.

There are moments when I’m driving to work or when I’m sitting at home trying to write a blog post that I just cry. I cry for the overwhelming memories that constantly flow, for my grandmother who lost her soulmate and husband of nearly 60 years, for my mother who lost her mother, for my dad who lost his dad, and for all of the good times that consume me with gratitude.

There were so many things that happened this year that made me realize how precious life is and how important family is.

In March, my brother-in-law, while on his birthday trip in New York, was diagnosed with a stage 4 malignant tumor on his spine that is inoperable. He is now paralyzed from the waist down and in a wheelchair. Joe is a former football player for Purdue and has the most amazing spirit. It’s amazing (and scary) how life can change in an instant. We trust and believe that God is still in the miracle business and pray every day, multiple times a day, for his complete healing.

What a year. I don’t share this with you because I’m looking for sympathy for myself or my family, but I wanted to offer perspective on my mindset as we enter into a new year. I also wanted to share an honest view of my life these days, beyond the perfect Instagram posts.

2017 was an incredible year professionally. In fact, it was our best year yet here at stephtaylorjackson.com. However, personally, it was my most challenging. For every high, there was a low. It humbled me and is making me stronger.

And now with the new year upon us, I must say I am hopeful for an even greater 2018. I have huge goals for the new year and I am so excited to take the blog to new heights and share more of me with you. Thank you so much for following along with me and for all of your support this year!

Below are a few of my favorite fashion moments from 2017 and your favorite posts!

I had the most AMAZING time in NYC this past September! It was a dream come true.

I look forward to creating many more memories this coming year and remembering to live in the moment.

Thank you, again, for an incredible year. I am forever grateful to you.
